Lauren Shantall (Pty) Ltd Integrated Communications was enaged to launch The New Modernist from February through to end April 2016. The New Modernist is a boutique store focusing on restored, collectible furniture pieces that showcase some of the best moments of Modernism..
The store is the brainchild of Emma De Crespigny, formerly of C20 Galerie. De Crespigny lovingly curates every piece for her new Bo-Kaap shopping destination. No mere vintage shop, The New Modernist presents items in a gallery-style setting where classic designs are recreated and brought into the present with contemporary fabrics and upholstery.
Bringing a New York style to the décor scene, De Crespigny holds a Masters Degree in History of Decorative Art and Design from Parsons. While not only curating pieces, Emma also creates unique lighting and accessories that have the same retro but modern feel. The New Modernist will soon be launching an e-commerce store where the collections can be bought.

We are delighted to announce that Lauren has also been selected as a Finalist in the Emerging Entrepreneur category!
The Regional Business Achievers Awards (RBAA) takes place annually and aims to celebrate the success of women in six categories – Emerging Entrepreneur (a business that has been in existence for three years or less), Entrepreneur, Social Entrepreneur, Professional, Corporate and Government. This year, the Cape leg of the awards received over 65 nominations made by members of BWA and 17 Finalists were selected by a judging panel.
Final judging will take place on the 24th of May 2016, with the awards to be announced at a gala dinner at Kelvin Grove on the 28th of July 2016. The final judging panel includes: Andrew Galloway of RSM Betty & Dicksen, Colleen Louw of PriMedia, Nomzamo Kasana of Glacier, Kobus Swart of Sanlam and Jaqueline Burge of Rarity Handbags. The process is facilitated by BWA representative Ferose Oaten of AVTS Roadworthy Stations.
Speaking of her selection as a 2016 regional finalist, Lauren Shantall says: “Firstly, I would very much like to congratulate all the other finalists across the various categories. I am extremely humbled by this opportunity and inspired to learn more from my peers and mentors and their business journeys. I believe that both my business and staff can benefit greatly from their examples and the milestones that they have achieved.”
The RBAA Finalists and Winners receive various prizes sponsored in kind and a showreel clip of their business produced by Dreamcatcher productions, that is screened at the gala event and then circulated via social media.
The awards are the brainchild of the BWA, which is a platform where women are inspired and empowered in terms of personal growth and development, as well as providing networking opportunities among its members. Aside from the RBAA, the BWASA has presented the Businesswoman of the Year Award since 1980; 26 years of inspiring women to achieve.
